Due to significant spatial and temporal changes in the cosmic radiation field, radiation measurements with advanced dosimetric instruments on board spacecrafts, aircrafts and balloons are very important. The Hungarian ESEO-TriTel student team and the Hungarian CoCoRAD student team are taking part in several educational programmes of the European Space Agency (ESA).
One of these educational programmes is the European Student Earth Orbiter (ESEO) project and the other is called Ballon Experiment for University Students (BEXUS). In the frame of these projects Hungarian students from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics will carry out scientific experiments on a research balloon and on a satellite to measure the cosmic radiation in different altitude ranges. In the near future the frequency of manned space flights will probably increase, we can think of the continuous human presence in the near-Earth region or the proposed human Mars expedition. That is why the cosmic radiation field is interesting not only in the near-Earth region but at higher altitudes or in the interplanetary field as well.
The presentation will introduce the ESEO and the BEXUS projects of the ESA, the work of the Hungarian ESEO-TriTel and CoCoRAD student teams, the main objectives of the proposed experiments and a future outlook.
